AFPW **NEWS** Portable Balloon Inflation System Show Case
AlumiFuel Power to Showcase Its Portable Balloon Inflation System at American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting
API’s Unique Technology to Be Viewed by Many Prospective Customers
PHILADELPHIA, PA–(Marketwire -12/08/11)- Early production stage hydrogen generation company AlumiFuel Power, Inc. (“API”), the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based wholly owned operating subsidiary of AlumiFuel Power Corporation (OTC.BB: AFPW.OB – News) (the “Company”), announced today it will display its PBIS-1000 unit at the 92nd annual American Meteorological Society (AMS) Meeting in New Orleans, January 23-26, 2012.
The annual AMS Meeting is the largest and most important weather-related conference in the U.S. It brings together all of the key players in the meteorological field, including systems integrators, instrumentation and sensor manufacturers, environmental engineering firms, weather information research and analysis organizations, government users, and commercial customers. There are over 100 exhibitors, and attendance is expected to match last year’s event, with more than 3,600 attendees from around the world.
API’s PBIS-1000, developed for a military user, with initial delivery in 2010, represents the fourth generation of PBIS technology under development since 2008. The PBIS-1000 uses 2 AlumiFuel cartridges to generate 1,000 liters of hydrogen lift gas in 20 minutes to launch a 100g weather balloon. As API’s first PBIS commercial product, the PBIS-1000 represents a unique integration of mechanical, chemical, fluid, gas, and air design leak-proof components — including coded stainless steel pressure vessels, pumps, tubing, connectors, seals, filters and gauges, all housed in a ruggedized polypropylene case. In September, 2011, API received a contract from U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command for a new system, the PBIS-2000. This new system, now under final development for a late February 2012 delivery, generates sufficient hydrogen to inflate and launch a larger 200g weather balloon.
CAD drawings of the PBIS-2000 will be on display at the AMS Meeting, along with the PBIS-1000 unit, and API will actively be taking orders for PBIS systems from new customers at the Meeting.
The current weather balloon lift gas market is pegged at $200 million per year, and encompasses military as well as civil government meteorological users worldwide. Traditionally, helium has been used as the primary lift gas for weather balloons, but with the increasing scarcity and cost of helium, users are rapidly switching to hydrogen and API’s PBIS family is far more mobile, safe, and cost effective than other on-site hydrogen generation systems. Based on customer feedback, API believes the PBIS family can become field standard and lift gas product of choice for NATO military users and meteorological customers worldwide. After purchasing any unit of the PBIS family, typical customers continue to purchase replacement cartridges to launch up to 700 balloons per unit each year (up to 4,200 cartridges).
API’s Director of Engineering, Mr. Sean McIntosh, said, “We are very enthusiastic about showcasing our world-class PBIS technology and products at the AMS Meeting, which will be attended by our present customers and many prospective new ones. The theme of this year’s Meeting, ‘Technology in Research and Operations,’ fits us perfectly.”

AFPW- Facility Walk Through & Annotated Chart!

AFPW closed absolutely beautifully on Friday at 0.066. Just as we predicted the chart has been consolidating nicely between 0.06 – 0.07. In fact we haven’t even managed to test our 0.06 support over the past few trading days. Instead it appears our support levels are growing stronger with every passing day, inching closer and closer to the 0.07 level.
Just as we promised, last week our colleague visited AFPW’s facility in Philadelphia to see what was brewing behind the scenes. We were extremely impressed to say the least , at 0.066 we feel AFPW has a lot more room for growth.

AFPW- A Strong & Steady Climber Up 7.69% With Great News!

AFPW had another fantastic day closing up 7.69% after the HOD close Thursday of last week. Today AFPW released some amazing news that we feel investors should read over carefully. AFPW announced today that they are positioned to aggressively move into the commercialization stage in early 2010, as one product is now entering the marketplace and another product is ready for market entry. We feel major developments are definitely under way, and AFPW has the management to fully deliver on all fronts. It’s quite evident AFPW is serious when business calls. If you recall their last PR from December 30th AFPW announced that, with the help of its local manufacturing partner, Apex Piping Systems, its production line is fully ready for mass production of its hydrogen generators.
We have a colleague that has plans on heading down to AlumiFuel Power Corporations facility this week. We should be able to get pictures of their building, etc and hopefully get some answer any questions we may have.
With MAJOR developments underway we believe that this could be an extremely exciting year for AFPW and it’s investors.

AFPW’s New’s Release Today:
AlumiFuel Power, Inc. Updates Its Commercialization and Marketing Plans
AFPW Recent Press Release Highlights:
- AlumiFuel Power Corporation (OTCBB: AFPW), (the “Company”), announced that it is positioned to aggressively move into the commercialization stage in early 2010, as one product is now entering the marketplace and another product is ready for market entry.
- API announced that, with the help of its local manufacturing partner, Apex Piping Systems (see API news release of September 28, 2009), its production line is fully ready for mass production of its hydrogen generators.
- API’s PBIS-1000 relies on the robust chemical reaction among aluminum, water, and proprietary additives. Operation of the generator is simple: two 32-oz. “aluminum can” cartridges containing aluminum powder and the proprietary additives, are loaded into the reactor vessels. Water from practically any source, including salt or brackish water, is poured into the water tank, and a hand pump is then used to inject water into the cartridges, generating 1,000 liters of hydrogen in 20 minutes.
- Unlike expensive electrolysis systems, API’s generator does not need an external power source, and unlike steam reformers, API’s generator creates no greenhouse gases. Furthermore, all the chemicals used in the reaction are non-toxic and can be recycled or discarded in municipal dumps. API’s hydrogen generator is more mobile and considerably less expensive than any other system on the market.
- The PBIS-1000 hydrogen generator is now in production, and delivery of these operational units to customers is expected to begin shortly.
- The weather balloon market is pegged at $150-$200 million per year, and encompasses military as well as civil government meteorological users worldwide. API and its partner, Kaymont Consolidated of Long Island, NY – the world’s largest distributor of weather balloons – have demonstrated pre-production versions of the PBIS-1000 to customers, and the production unit reflects considerable customer feedback. Based on customer reaction, Kaymont and API expect to begin capturing significant market share in 2010, and believe the PBIS-1000 can become the field standard and product of choice. After purchasing PBIS-1000 hydrogen generators, customers will continue to purchase replacement cartridges sufficient for each generator to launch 500-1,000 balloons each year (1,000-2,000 cartridges). This is analogous to the razor/razor blade market dynamic.
- API is in discussions with several major fuel cell companies regarding specific applications. Small, portable fuel cell applications potentially represent an $8 billion annual market as fuel cells replace older technologies such as gensets and batteries. It should be noted that hydrogen provides 4-5 times the energy density (and hence operating time) of lithium batteries.
- API has also completed development of a new generation of flameless heaters – which can heat rations, or fuel personal warmers. (See API news release of December 21, 2009). The most highly visible application in this genre is the Flamelss Ration Heaters (FRH) which heats MREs (Meals-Ready-to Eat) in about 20 minutes. The US Department of Defense (DoD) spends about $36 million annually on these heaters for MREs. Worldwide, this FRH market is about $70 million for military and commercial applications. The incumbent FRH provider to the DoD operates on a sole source basis using a magnesium powder-based mix. After considerable comparative testing in API’s laboratory, it is apparent that API’s AlumiFuel powder-based mix is superior in terms of heat generated per gram and time of heating, and is significantly cheaper. API now has a product ready for this market and is in a dialogue with the cognizant DoD offices to determine the appropriate path for market entry. API also is exploring various options for path-to-market partners to address the larger global market.
- In addition to these market-ready applications, API and a major aerospace partner are continuing to pursue a longer-range, but highly important mission-critical undersea application for the U.S. Navy. Together with a major subsidiary of the world’s second largest aerospace & defense company (a Fortune-50 firm), API is in discussions with U.S. Navy R&D activities regarding appropriate programs to develop a prototype Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) propulsion system using API’s AlumiFuel-water reaction as the source of superheated steam to drive the aerospace firm’s turbines.

Hydrogen Energy is Smoking HOT! And AFPW Has Gone All In!!

Hydrogen Energy is taking the world by storm! We feel AFPW is making all the right moves to grab a hold of this Multi Billion Dollar market!
Why We Believe Investing in Hydrogen Companies is A Great Idea for Potentially Massive Gains:
- -Hydrogen is the simplest element known to humans. Each atom of hydrogen has only one proton. It is also the most abundant gas in the universe.
- -Hydrogen is an extremely environment friendly fuel as when it burns it releases only water vapor into the atmosphere
- -Hydrogen has a unique property. It carries the highest energy content of any common fuel by weight (about three times more than gasoline), but interestingly it has the lowest energy content by volume (about four times less than gasoline).
- -Environmentalists are continuously searching for green and clean fuel. They have been putting a lot of energy and talent into hydrogen fuels because when hydrogen is burned, the only emission it makes is water vapor. So it is a great advantage that burning of hydrogen doesn’t produce carbon dioxide. Clearly, hydrogen is less of a pollutant in the air because it emits little tail pipe pollution.
Is Hydrogen the next ‘Bottled Water’?
By switching from an access to ‘stream’ delivery model to a retail-shelf based ‘packet’ model we change the value proposition of hydrogen.
Micro fuel cells integrated into products (cell phones, TVs, laptops, lamps, coffee makers, et al) are micro-power plants. As long as they have fuel they deliver electricity on-demand. Quietly, efficiently and at a low cost.
That means flat screen TVs with no dangling cords. Coffee makers sitting anywhere on the counter top. No more cell phone or laptop chargers.
You simple swap out depleted ‘packets’ with new ones.
Hydrogen is important as a potential ‘fuel’ for distributed and portable power generation systems based on fuel cell conversion.
Storing hydrogen as a solid (e.g. MOFs) or a liquid (methanol) is akin to selling bottled water to consumers in a world of ubiquitous access to potable water.
At first glance it doesn’t seem to make sense, but the reality is that our mobile lives shift the value proposition of energy formats that help us ‘unplug’. “Excerpt From Source: http://www.theenergyroadmap.com/futureblogger/show/1858″
Turning Point for Hydrogen
Hydrogen is not going to emerge overnight as a new model for power generation. But it is not, as many sketpics will argue, ‘decades away’.
At some point hydrogen production and storage systems will cross that line into commercial viability. We have covered dozens of recent breakthroughs (below) in lower cost production and effective storage systems that are likely to change the game in the years ahead.
“Excerpt From Source: http://www.theenergyroadmap.com/futureblogger/show/1858″

World Advances On Hydrogen as an Alternative Energy:
- -BMW Hydrogen 7 Production: BMW has announced the start of production of the new BMW Hydrogen 7, the world’s first hydrogen-powered luxury saloon car. Destined to make its first public appearance on 28 November at the Los Angeles Motor Show, the Hydrogen 7 will be built in limited numbers and offered to selected users in 2007. The BMW Hydrogen 7 is based on the existing 7 Series and comes equipped with an internal combustion engine capable of running on liquid hydrogen or petrol. In hydrogen mode the car emits nothing more than water vapor. Powered by a 260hp 12-cylinder engine, the Hydrogen 7 accelerates from zero to 62mph in 9.5 seconds before going on to an electronically limited 143mph top speed.
- -Fuel Cell Powered UAV Completes 23-hour Flight: Surveillance and communication are the lifeline of the armed forces. These days they are utilizing small UAVs for naval missions. If the armed forces are using electric UAVs, they have the additional advantage. Electric UAVs can’t be detected from the ground. The Ion Tiger has just demonstrated the likelihood of a long endurance missions with an electric UAV. Naval forces can get a larger cruise range. Naval forces can reduce the number of daily launches and landings too. This increases the capability and yet naval crew can save on the time and effort fronts.
- -First Hydrogen Power Plant in Italy: Italy has come up with world’s first hydrogen power plant. This power plant is situated in Fusina, near Venice in the Veneto region of Italy. Enel is constructing this power plant producing no undesirable greenhouse gases. It is Italy’s largest power company with a track record of fifty million power and gas customers. Enel is procuring hydrogen from an accompanying production from Polimeri Europa’s petrochemical plant. This hydrogen will be brought to the establishment by especially built pipelines. Polimeri produces a wide range of petrochemical products, and its ethylene-cracking process will be responsible for the hydrogen feedstock. This hydrogen power plant will be operational in 2010. It will provide power to 20,000 households.
- -New Advances in Hydrogen Fuel Catalysts: Hydrogen has great potential as a fuel of future because it is an environmentally clean energy fuel and save us from the undesirable side effects of greenhouse gases. Before becoming it a fuel of the masses we need necessary infrastructure to store it and move it. We will also need fuel cells on economical scale. To make hydrogen as a popular alternative fuel some engineers are working on storage factor of hydrogen fuel. They don’t want compressed hydrogen into a tank. They want to store hydrogen fuel into a large molecule. When we want hydrogen out of the molecule we will need a catalyst. Now, researchers have new details about one such catalyst.
- -New Hydrogen Powered Urban Car by Riversimple: A new hydrogen car was unveiled in London, UK by Riversimple. This Riversimple Urban Car (RUC) is powered by fuel cells. These fuels cells combine hydrogen with oxygen from the air to release energy. What comes out from the exhaust pipe is not toxic fumes but water. Even using hydrogen fuel from source to car’s fuel tank, its carbon emissions for urban driving are only 30 grams/km. The weight of this hydrogen car is 772 pounds. You can travel 186 miles on just 2.2 pounds of liquid hydrogen. The Riversimple Urban Car is powered by a cheap, 6-kilowatt fuel. The car’s top speed is 50 miles per hour (80.4672 kilometres per hour). It can be accelerated from 0 to 30 mph (48 km/h) in 5.5 seconds.
- -Hydrogen Powered Street Cleaner: We are hearing about many inventions and discoveries in the alternative energy sector. But we don’t get to read about many ‘actual’ finished products doing their work in real world. What we know is many models being tested in laboratories. But here we are seeing Bucher CityCat H2, the world’s first municipal utility vehicle powered by fuel cells, made its debut last week in Basel, Switzerland. This street-cleaning CityCat will be doing her work on an eighteen months trial basis. It will be a matter of study that how this vehicle nicknamed as Bucher CityCat H2 be helpful in reducing air pollution than traditional diesel engines. Empa and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) have, in collaboration with Bucher Schoerling, Proton Motor, BRUSA Elektronik AG und Messer Schweiz, developed a hydrogen powered municipal street cleaning vehicle that was unveiled to the public on 14th May 2009 in Basel.
- -Eco-Friendly Fuels at I-5 Rest Stops: Common man and policy makers both are increasingly being made aware of the importance of clean and green fuels in near future. The governors of 3 states have come forward with a plan to transform Interstate 5 from a freeway dotted by gasoline burners to a sanctuary for eco-friendly cars and trucks. The people chalking out this plan are Marty Brown, Gregoire’s legislative liaison, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski.
- - University Team Helps Nissan Unveil its Green Future: A Sunderland University team is working tirelessly to create a hydrogen powered car. It will be a significant step forward in developing a mass produced green vehicle. It is named as Nissan Almera. Under the leadership of Dirk Kok, from the Institute of Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice (AMAP), the university research team, has adapted a Nissan Almera that will lead Nissan to its green vehicle. The vehicle will not emit poisonous fumes from its exhaust but water.
- -Hydrogen Energy Economy Investment in Europe: A Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) has been proposed by 48 leading industry stakeholders on the eve of the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform (HFP) annual assembly and exhibition in Brussels. It is hoped that this new initiative will produce new advances in the development and implementation of hydrogen fuel cell technology in Europe. $5 Billion Euros is being proposed as an investment effort to increase national energy security, the environment, and Europe’s market competitiveness. The initiative is designed for the funding of hydrogen vehicles and infrastructure, hydrogen energy supplies, fuel cells for heat, power and the technology markets.
